I was out enjoying friends playing in their swing band on a local campsite on the weekend and was asked to do the mixing table for them. it was quite nice playing sound tech again,as not done that for a long time !! I was told after the gig that it was the best that they have ever sounded :-) I will not take all of the praise for that however,as I think that it was the tightest set that I have seen and heard them do . Good teamwork :-)

I had my first fish and chips last night for maybe 20 years and they were very nice indeed. The chips were nicely cut un-anorexic slices of local pembrokeshire potato’s and the fish was a locally fished haddock and both were quite delicious. I happened to walk past three, well actually two chippies on my way home after a walk and the smell did make me hungry so when I got to the third one I gave in to tempataion. Went and sat on a bench down at the local millpond and even after a small portion of chips I still had a good few to share with the seagulls :-) The fish however was all mine and was also a huge piece :-)

Happy….. flipping delirious. Yesterday a mate and myself took ourselves off to Granville for our annual 18 holes at the only genuine links course in France. On a day which started with fine mist, then occasionally turned in to heavy rain for short periods, on handicaps I played the round 3 under par to my friends one under par. Got back to the clubhouse for a warming coffee to see the sun shine through the clouds. Seventy five minutes each way but for anyone who knows about golf, Granville is the tops when it comes to Links golf and worth the long journey. And before anyone says waste of a good walk, the course alone is worth that wasted walk.
Edit:A links is the oldest style of golf course, first developed in Scotland. The word “links” comes via the Scots language from the Old English word hlinc: “rising ground, ridge” and refers to an area of coastal sand dunes and sometimes to open parkland.

I used to play a bit of golf in my teens at the south pembs club in pembroke dock, but was never a competitive player and would enjoy the Me time (was going to say play with myself, but decided best not), and some of my most enjoyable rounds were with the rain and wind blasting up the river cleddau. It made it a bit more of a personal challengefor me and rarely did anyone else come onto the course so it was a very tranquil place to be.

I was using clubs inherited from my grandfather and got many fairly enticing offers from club members to buy some of them off me,especially the putter which was the talk of the clubhouse quite often. These had great sentimental value and there was no way I was going to sell them. Sadly they were stolen when I was playing snooker in the clubhouse :-(

I did enjoy those walks around and have fond memories of those days :-)

A nice walk early afternoon then into a nice tranquil pub for a pint of local ale then back to my van armed with a couple of lovely locally baked vegatable and cheese Lattice’s and and more ale to enjoy with a rugby game between Argentina and south Africa. Go and light my fire down my mums garden now to heat up my water for my wash and shave then a couple of episodes of the tudors to finish a nice holiday sort of day :-)

2 weeks ago, I fetch my mum to the GP. She was taken to the emergency in Vannes for a heart problem. I went back to pick her up at one o’clock with a medication prescription. Two weeks later, on wednesday, back to the GP, another electro-cardiogramme then back to the emergency again ….. She has stayed two nights at the hospital this time, with more medical exams. They finally found out she has a leaky aortic valve. Too old to have an operation (85) so a new medication. Meanwhile, I took my dad to the GP yesterday because he’s got a problem with his legs. Some more exams to be done. I’ve manage to have a rendez vous today at 6.15pm with an angiologist in Redon. I went to Vannes this afternoon to fetch my mum some goodies to eat (she was in good health enought to complain about the food ;-) ) and I was very happy to take her back home with me, as the cardio said she can go back home (she has insisted heavily that she can’t leave my dad alone). We were just back in time to let her in the house and pick my dad up for his ride in Redon. The angiologist said to my dad he fetched his princess with him and heavily insisted to take me with him in Australia    I wasn’t very receptive of his sense of humour ….. At the end, his legs are not to bad but …. he discovered an aortic aneurysm, not too bad for now, but to be checked in 6 month, plus a cardio visit within a month as he found his current medication might be too strong. My dad is 90. One of my brother is coming tomorow from Paris to sort out the furniture moving, as they are definitively living next to me now, no way they will go back in Paris suburb. My other brother (retired), living 40 kms from us, has just give me a phone call last night to have some news, as he was too busy as he has to go to a funeral today …. That is maybe me, but I don’t have the same priorities. I was very glad I wasn’t working, I am so happy I am working half time. All that to say, it was so nice to see my parents both reunited, the genuine love smile on their face

Strange one for the happy thread, but I met a friends sister today so we could go and have a good chat at the site where her brother and my best friend died a year and a half back when I was stuck in france. It was on the side of the local millponds from having a major heart attack whilst out jogging. We sat there and exchanged Dave stories and both had a good laugh on what a pleasure it had been to spend time in the company of such a funny and nice guy.

I will be contacting the council on monday to see if there is any way that we can get a bench put in on the spot that he died with a plaque engraved and attached to the bench. He was a very well known guy in our town and everyone knew and loved him, and it would be very fitting to get this done out of respect to his memory and to also bring back dave stories to most of the locals who walk past,as everyone had a funny story or two about him. Also a lovely spot for the locals and tourists to sit and enjoy the view of the ponds and the castle and all the bird life that lives there.

It was a happy moment sharing these stories and we both laughed out loud many times to some of the silly situations that he often got himself into. A nice moment indeed that did us both the world of good. xxxx
