Reading through the book whilst “tidying up” the computer and came across this photo from May 1995 of long service award winners. Nothing untoward about that but I’d forgot that the chap, third from the left, on the front row was a Frenchman! Claude Jabin.
His claim to fame was that he met his future wife when she was on holiday in France. He fell in love with her immediately and got her address to write to her. Good old Claude was so enamoured that he came over unannounced and refused to leave the country. After many shenanigans he got a permit to stay in England and married her. He steadfastly refused to speak French ever again because he said that his future was in England!
