Don’t think so, seems to be when I’m in the garden on a warm day, and notice that my skin and T shirt (especially if it’s white), have these minute black lice looking things crawling over them. Horrible things.
Any little beasties that choose to bite me usually end up completely plastered and then fall to their deaths. The amount of mosquitos with alcohol dependency round here is staggering.
As tigre has said Paul chiggers are microscopic red insects belonging to the spider family (see all the links posted) I think what you’re seeing are pollen beetles
Probably not pollen beetles, much smaller and not beetles.
I know what you mean Paul , but don’t know what they are called . We used to get them a lot , by the waterside , they look like ladybird larvae but much smaller and make you itch , get everywhere. Usually the end of the evening , time to go inside!

Are they what we call thunder bugs (thrips) Paul perhaps?
For the pedant among us the Oxford Concise dictionary says an informal meaning of an insect is any small invertebrate animal such as a spider or tick. (Chigger mites belong to the genus eutrombicula and are arachnids, like spiders and ticks – from the internet) To coin a phrase, I rest my case.

Those are they , Fruitcake .
Sorry about the insect chastisment ( just a bit of fun eh ? ) , I studied biology and zoology at school with speciality Insects .( not pedantic at all , just precise)
A pedant is a person excessively concerned with displaying technical knowledge (according to the same dictionary as above) isn’t that what you were doing Deboer? I, of course, did not study zoology but I have in my time given biology a run for its money. I won’t go into what category thrips come in, suffice to say we both agree that they are probably what is annoying Paul.
Good morning Deboer, I thought my tongue in cheek writing about biology would have indicated that it was just for fun, guess we all have different senses of humour. I am by nature very often pedantic, can’t help myself, but I wouldn’t think anyone describing me as such was calling me names, just telling it like it is, there you go, I guess we’re all different in what we are sensitive about.
