A trip to Lorient.
A rendezvous resulted in our decision to book a night out in Lorient.
Originally we had planned to visit a particular restaurant that was
recommended to us and we searched trip adviser for accommodation.
We selected a basic double en-suite room at the Hotel Les Pecheurs
which was a short walk from the centre of town.
We have not been anywhere near a big town in years, not since before
we moved to France.
We were travelling by car and relying on an old Tom Tom navigator. It
wasn’t up to the job. It managed to get us within a few hundred metres
of our destination before we were thwarted with no entries ending up
on a perpetual circular route. Having tried all options we opted for
toutes directions and headed out of town.
Next we found a place to stop and we worked on trying to use an I
phone to navigate. It isn’t easy but eventually I pressed the right
button and off we went. It took us a different route, straight to the
hotel. Impressive.
The hotel was dated but looked clean and not out of place, we went
into the bar and checked in. The chap who we believe was the owner was
very bubbly and helpful.
Our room was on the second floor, there wasn’t a lift. The stairs and
corridors were clean and the walls and ceilings freshly painted. the
same was true of the room which had equally white bedding and towels.
The bed was comfortable and the en-suite was supplied with soap and
loo paper, there were power points to charge things.
We left our bag and walked into town in search of food. The walk
involved crossing a bridge and walking alongside a marina. The town
itself was clean felt spacious and was well maintained but it was
apparent that a number of people were living rough.
Due to the time, it was mid afternoon food was a problem and we
reluctantly ordered a MuckDonalds. Two burgers, two post mix orange
juices and a portion of chips, over 20 Euros and all served very cold
after a long wait! Absolutely disgusting and not to be recommended.
After a good nights rest we reported for breakfast in the hotel bar,
the two of us for 17.95E, very good it was too.
Entertainment was provided by a regular breakfaster, a lady who found
her small but new looking car blocked in. She simply reversed into the
one behind, drove into the one ahead and repeated with the different
locks, 3 bangs later complete with a car alarm and hazard lights she was out with a hoot and a cheery wave..
The room cost us 71 Euros which we felt was good value and we would
return there in the future.
