Ok, so here it is, I have, over the past several weeks on more occasions than I am honest enough to own up to, been sat there watching something on Netflix, when I turn to my wife and ask her if she can hear and understand what the hell is being said in the film or series we’re watching.
She wakes up and says ‘Ya waa?’
I ask her the same question again and get this reply.
“If it’s British, I can, if it’s American, I can’t.”
I then play this to her and she says, “I’m going deaf and stupid!”
“Don’t worry”, I say, “we’ll both go deaf and stupid together”.
To be quite honest, Gleaner, both my husband and I often have trouble to understand what’s being said on some programs/ films, a lot of actors/actresses often mumble, or it seems to us that they do, so, you turn the sound up to see if that helps and when any music comes on you’re blasted out of your seat!!! Then you can have a program that is for example interviewing an Indian, he/she speaks very good English, can be understood and for some reason they have subtitles!
I’ve cracked it Gleaner they said “Sure” a couple of times! Simples!
Both Mr. F. and I have the same problems with all that you and tigre have said and Mr. F. wears headphones because he’s hard of hearing and can have the volume to whatever level he wants but often we neither of us can make out the mumbling! The worse thing is when they keep the background music playing over the mumbling, totally lose the plot then – literally!
I’ve started watching the new series of Shetland – now that’s a challenge!
