I like the like button.
Sometimes one has only time for a quick run through the posts and it is nice to let the poster know that you like their subject.
I know that when I have written a story it is nice to know that someone has actually read it.
If the like option is abused surely a quick ‘OI!’ from admin would sort it.
I obviously have no factual numbers but I would guess that more people would be in favour of it than not.
I feel the same way, and it’s really sad to have to do without this tool because of a minority of people who will find another way to disrupt the forum anyway.
Stinky stories is a good exemple, it fits to pictures too, and I like to read and “like” his stories, would be a shame to discourage him
Come on guys – stop giving Future Vision such a hard time. He’s / she’s saved this site from extinction and now you’re demanding this and that -we’re lucky to have the site at all.
There’s not a lot else for those of us who live over here. We don’t want them to get fed up with us before they’ve even started.
At the end of the day, it’s the only place where we can have a good moan about Brexit and the UK Government and I know we’d all miss not being able to do that.
So let’s just let him / her get on with it their way.
I’ve just asked if it “would” be possible to have the like button back, I’ve never said I demand to have the like button back I don’t know how this site is set up, maybe it is just an option to activate or maybe not ?
I’ve created this post to get the point of view of other posters. At least we are showing FV that we feel involved in the forum.
I think a lot of us has expressed why they “would” like it back, what’s wrong with that ?
Yes , the ” like ” button is a good way of showing that you like a post/photo/story
Some folk ( John P. for example) think that the like button is used as a vote , to be able to count how many members stand with the poster against another.
I would use the like , just to show that I like whatever has been posted , not as a weapon .
I just feel that FV has been particularly brave taking us lot on – Of course it’s nice having someone like a comment that you’ve made. TBH it really doesn’t bother me one way or another.
I’ve probably said quite enough in life that people don’t like that it’ll make a nice change if someone were to agree with me – however, I wouldn’t lose a lot of sleep if they didn’t.
So I’ll just sit here on the fence and see what happens.
To like a post (if it’s not used to gang up someone as previously explained), is normaly a positive act. Just a thumb down without any explanation could be a bit agressive, if no explanation attached, but this is me, we don’t all have the same sensitivity.
Marmite Never occurred to me that it could be used as a weapon?

Marmite I must have missed it…Bobby doesn’t like much.
except?!!
In think this little discussion, along with the constant campaigning (3 pages of comments from about 6 posters) shows just how some functions can be misused and abused.
Cossie’s suggestion looks like a workable compromise. It would probably defeat the potential for weaponising the ‘like’ function.
The other function in the list (statistics under a posters avatar) could also be weaponised, if it included such statistics as ‘likes’ or ‘thanks’, by some comparing their popularity to other posters.
I, personally, speak my mind without worrying about popularity. Sorry if my comments upset or annoy some, my intention is to make my opinion known, not as some appear to suspect, to be intentionally contrary.
I have seen in other forums other functions weaponised which were intended for benign use, for instance, the option to ignore comments from trolls, or aggressive posters, etc.
It is now used as a weapon to ignore opposing opinions, and I have seen whole ‘tribes’ put an individual poster ‘on ignore’, as a response to a sound counter-argument supported by irrefutable evidence. Of course, all that does is to hide the comments from that ‘ignored’ poster by the ‘tribe’. Everyone else can still see those comments. And what it does do is to show the whole forum that the ‘tribe’ has a mentality of sticking its proverbial head in the sand to opposing views. But it does create dominant cultures within the forum.
I’ve also seen such comments as “why are you here, no-one has liked your comments”, or “you’ve not received any thanks”.
We’re getting close to such comments already with totally unprovoked comments such as, “Bobby doesn’t like much”.
But fear not, I’m not offended, and I will continue to offer my opinion, however unpopular they may appear.

I think freedom of speech is important.
Without disagreement there is no discussion and then life would become vey boring.
Just because a person doesn’t agree with another ,it doesn’t make their opinion wrong . Better to discuss their opinion than to post useless personal attacks .
I think the like button is a simple way of showing agreement , why hide things from some of the members?
A forum is made by human being for human being, we can’t avoid those behavior but we all should be able to compromise. Cossie is trying to find a solution and that is very good (I like it !). Is it workable on a technical point of view ?
