Hi everyone,
I have thought about doing sea fishing, ideally from a pier, for quite some time. We are based near Brecey. Even though I don’t mind driving for an hour or two, I haven’t found places to go to. Fishing from the shore in the bay doesn’t seem too practical considering water depth. Could anyone, please, point me in the right direction.
Thanx in advance.
Have you had any experience of sea fishing/ beach casting?
If you haven’t much experience either go with someone who has or try a river mark. Rivers will produce surprisingly good fish including Bass.
Don’t be too worried about depth of water. Early morning or evening trips will still produce fish on the right tides.
How far is St Malo, there are lots of possibilities in that area.
Try some interweb searches for fishing spots?
WSF – World sea fishing forum is a good site and people may well respond to a post.
Look at you tube type in peche followed by the name of a place, or area. Also look up chase peche and the name of the place, you get to sea underwater what the bottom is like and what fish there are.
Look at google earth, find marinas, headlands etc.
Shore fishing can be very hard but by going at the right times with the right tackle and bait / lures it can be very productive.

You are welcome.
With regard to your concern about depth, I have caught hundreds and hundreds of good fish in just a few feet of water. Flatfish can be caught in as little as a few inches.
Bass can be caught in less than a foot on the early flood tide when they are hunting crabs and shrimp etc.
Rays also can feed shallow water.
I have had high double figure Smoothound’s in eighteen inches and Cod over 20lb in five or six feet.
Mullet and Eels also like to feed in the shallows out of the worst of the tidal stream.
Whiting come very close to most beaches in the autumn.
The most important thing is the correct bait and correct presentation of it. The next most important thing is perseverance. Remember every cast is a cast closer to your next fish.
Good luck.
it is a good time to fish, particularly on a flood tide but there is more to it than that.
If you are somewhere where others are fishing, just sit for a while, watch.
If fish are caught take note of the conditions, state of the tide, the weather.
look at the bait and methods that work.Come back tomorrow at the same time, in an hour you should see some action.
Good luck

Ok, will depend on the experience and tackle that you both have.
I was going to suggest Douarnonez but one wall is sheer and the other a bit high.
If you have beachcasting gear, Azel is fishing well but you will need fresh bait.
The river at Hennebont is full of Mullet and you can fish from the car on the west bank a couple of hundred metres south of the town. I imagine bass will also be present on the early flood.
I have never been but the interweb suggests that Concarneau is wort a try. There are tackle shops where you should get up to date advice as well.
Yes, Concarneau, a town in Brittany, France, has several options for sea fishing from piers and harbors. The town’s harbor and surrounding areas are popular spots for both local anglers and tourists. Notable locations include:
Port de Plaisance (Marina): The marina area in Concarneau is known for its accessibility and is a popular spot for fishing.
Ville Close: This walled town area has several spots where you can fish along the walls and near the old fortifications.
La Corniche: The coastal path along La Corniche provides access to various fishing spots with beautiful views.
Môle du Moros: A jetty providing a good fishing spot with access to deeper waters.
If money is available and you want to treat the lad get out on a boat, the website below guarantees a catch, again this is from Concaneau
Santa-Maria – Sea fishing – Concaneau (santamariapeche.com)
here is another I found /www.alpha-marine.fr/peche-en-mer-concarneau-165.php
Good luck and do please let us know how you get on?
Fishing is always worth it FC, even if you don’t get a bite.
You see so much wildlife, you get fresh air and all your troubles are far away.
catching fish is the bonus and 30 years ago there were good catches to be had.

I also remember packing his sandwiches and getting up at 3am to wave him off to go out on the boat fishing ( his favourite) Didn’t have to wave him off, the other wives didn’t, I liked to do so.
Yes he never minded if he came home empty handed, he just enjoyed the experience, but when he did come home with a catch the fresh, flaky, creamy cod or shiny mackerel were a wonderful bonus.

She loves the catching and the eating but not the waiting for a bite if it takes longer than a few minutes. She once filled a seven stone box with cod in little over an hour by herself. All I did was put bait on and net unhook and despatch and by then the next fish was half way up to the boat.
