Trying to settle an argument – is the Pernod sold in the UK e.g https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/pernod-aperitif-70cl the same as the pastis that we buy here?
Definitley not, Pastis is basically Ricard, Licorice is dominant in Ricard while Pernod derives its flavor more from star anise and fennel, although similar Ricard is refined far smoother far more palitable, in fact there is no real comparrison, oddly enough I had some friends bring me a couple bottles each last week (Alcohol is hard to get here) the Pernod was sweeter and in comparrison to the Ricard was verging on horrible

Bothe Pernod and Ricard are now owned by the same company Pernod Ricard, which succeeded an older company, Pernod Fils, a major producer of genuine old world absinthe before it was first banned.
Crikey! I wasn’t expecting such a detailed and knowledgeable answer, but thanks Allwaysinnit. I don’t drink pastis very often but I do enjoy a well diluted glass on a warm evening.
