I have a HP laptop with windows 10 password protected. Unfortunately, it won’t recognise the password so I can’t get into it. Have tried everything I can. We’re not very computer literate and don’t understand the jargon, so please be basic with any advice.

    Thanks all

I take it you’ve tried the caps lock key. Have you also tried num(ber) lock ?

It may not be relevant, but if you’re using a keyboard with the number part separate on the right hand side, the numbers will only work if the “num lock” key is activated, this includes any numbers that you might have in your password when starting windows.

The password is written correctly as it’s possible to show password. This includes numbers and letters. I’ve discovered this problem is quite common although I’d not heard of it before.

Sometimes the log-on password to your PC can be confused with your Microsoft password.

    They are different.
