I have just found out that French driving licences are to be dematerialized next year and the following year it is the turn of carte vitale.
So basically you have to pay out for a so called smart device and learn how to work it to do anything.
I just can’t keep up.
Not only that, but I don’t always have my phone and the battery dies after an hour or so of not being plugged in.
Another case of progress backwards and the next logical step is to make us all have a chip like a dog.
I have read about this and as I understand it this will be an additional service provided for people who want it, and I am sure there will be many who welcome it, others not so much. For the people who don’t want to use the new e service they will still be able to use their old style licences and health cards as before. I also understand that the pink paper driving licences are valid until 2033. Where would the world be without progress! I think it’s a good thing. I don’t think humans will ever be chipped but I do think that everyone’s DNA should be recorded. So many crimes could be easily solved if DNA matching was available.
For those of us who lost internet and power for days recently after the storm we have just seen how utterly over reliant we are on modern technology, but the powers that be just can’t think outside the box.
I’m thinking of going to satellite broadband – not Starlink – too many tall trees close around us here.
I’ve got a tree-free line of sight to the new Orange/Nordnet superfast broadband satellite launched last year, it’s a geostationary satellite @ 34.5 degrees elevation so higher up in the sky than the usual Freesat jobbie.
€49.99 per month for unlimited braodband plus free landline phone calls to landlines plus calls to french mobiles and 6 other country mobiles.
If I’ve got power from our generator after a storm- I will have broadband email and phone.

Such a shame that the world is trying to force most people into owning tech they do not need or want and you must have a smartphone in order to live!!
The recent Screwfix bullying & FOMO blackmailing campaign is a prime example whereby if you don’t sign up to their app you will miss extra discounts etc. What they and a lot of people/companies and governments do not realize is that it’s my phone, my choice and my bill. So unless they are going to pay it stop bothering me.
I like Bonjour think that human beings micro chipped from birth is a possible future whereby you will be linked directly to an AI computer and you will required to be the best consumer unit possible!!!
I hate that I need a phone and I only have it mostly for emergencies providing I got a signal as most of the time we do not
29th November 2023 at 8:52 am #593820It does feel that tech is racing too way ahead for people to keep up with.
Mine is an iPhone…but very out of date im informed by my daughter….it was a renaissance from Le clerc…ie reconditioned…I’ve had it for at least 3 years…keeping the battery up is my only real problem…it has a hot spot for the iPad to run off…which is handy.
I have an old I phone 5 which has better battery than my current one so I will see if I can swap the sims.
Another case of anti progress is I wish to install software onto the new laptop.
There is no dvd drive!!!
