I’m hoping Barty can come to my rescue yet again. We have a Humax Freesat box and all our recordings have disappeared and we are unable to record any more.

I have tried to find an answer myself by asking Google but once HDD’s and hard drives were mentioned I was lost!!

Unplug the box form the power, count to ten and plug it back in, if that doesn’t work then try doing a factory reset ……. settings…… system settings….. factory default ……. then follow the instructions using a UK postcode.

If that doesn’t work you’ve lost the recordings but try:   settings……….system settings ……. storage…….. HDD then disk clean-up

If that doesn’t work as above but the reformat option..

If that doesn’t work bring it into the shop and we’ll try replacing the hard disk

if that doesn’t work it’s replace the box time

Thank you so much Barty, to the rescue once again! I will give it a go, thank you :rose:

Edited to say that I did try the unplug option before I cried for help

I fell at the first hurdle Barty, I needed a pin code, to get further and I have no idea what that is!

    or 1234

Thanks Barty, got through option 1, no joy, so I guess we’ve lost them. Option 2 I needed a USB, option 3 I didn’t have a format option. Looks like a new box!

Thank you so much again for your help, you’re a star!

How weird, suddenly last night, after their absence, our recordings of programmes are all back, obviously the planned ones are all gone, as I reset back to factory settings, but I can record again!! Don’t know what all that means!

It usually means that the hard drive controller is failing, sadly it’s on the main circuit board so not something that’s easily replaced……… the good news is that it may well keep working for ages (the bad news is it’s completely unpredictable)

Most importantly it means it’s time to start the penny pot for the replacement box

Thanks, Barty, I did wonder if it was the machine giving us a warning of some sort that it’s getting ‘tired’ it seems I was probably right! Fingers crossed it keeps working long enough for us to put some pennies in that pot!

I ordered a refurbished one, which is coming next Saturday, and just as you said Barty, the current one was unpredictable and it decided to not work again last night, so all recordings & the ability to record more were lost yet again  – I was hoping it would hang on until the other one arrived!! Hey ho, at least we have the TV channels.
