So sorry you had the added stress of not knowing what was happening JD, but really pleased that the new, once you eventually got it, was favourable.

I do hope things go as they should for Janet and you can feel.a little more positive.

    All good wishes.

My wife had her neck surgery in the George’s Pompidou hospital in Paris. The surgery went went well however my wife has not woken up properly and the doctors do not know why at the moment. She is in intensive care at the moment. I was allowed to see and speak to her and by her response she knew I was there. The doctors are doing lots of tests and we may know more tomorrow. I have given the doctors a name of a good friend who speaks French, I have given them permission to give her all details.

I have just today returned from Paris, very expensive place. I will go back once my wife wakes up and find out when she will return here.

I am trying keep positive. To say the days on from the operation have been stressful is an understatement. I have got through some how through the support and good wishes of my friends and the good people on this forum. Will update you all with hopefully some positive news.

Keep being positive JD….it was a big ,,long operation…she needs time to get the aesthetic out of her  system…we,re here behind you willing her on.

The fact you know she is still there is a godsend.

I hope you have some one to talk to or to be with you.

Anaesthetic can do strange things. I once had surgery and had not metabolised the anaesthetic six weeks later. So much so when I had a more complicated operation, it was performed with a block. I was awake.

Thank you for spelling anaesthetic,,,,,,…I have a block and so does spellcheck

it’s true though …it affects people differently..the important thing is that jivedance knew she was hearing him.

Best wishes JD, keep us updated, and take care.

So pleased you got home safe yesterday in that awful weather.  As has been said anaesthetic can do strange things but the fact that your wife knew you were there sounds positive.  Intensive care after such a long, complicated operation is not unusual, often afterwards the transfer is then soins continu before a transfer to a more general room.  Ask your friend to find out when is a good time to phone the nurses for information when they have the time to give a full update.  Sorry do not know the times in the Paris hospitals but here it is usually late morning after the doctor has visited or around 4pm when the shift briefing meeting is well over and the new shift have carried out their checks.  Try to get some rest for yourself over the weekend.  Thinking of you both

To answer your question Neptune Lady my friend has been told to telephone again today after 2 p.m. as they have carried more tests. They did say Janet was a little more awake yesterday.
Once again thanks for the support from the forum members, it does help to know that so many on here so supportive.

Jivedance any one of us can be in the same position ,so we are all behind you.

Being ill in essentially a foreign country…even though we are residents…is challenging.

The language ..not always easy…especially complex medical terms…but be reassured that honestly they have always been kind and honest..I’m sure they are doing their best for your wife and you.

    as they say here…courage!

JD, How are you both ?

My wife is still in intensive care. She is more awake now but with a tube/s down her throat so she cannot speak. She can respond to questions with small head movements. I am going back to Paris on Friday and will give a further update when I return on Monday. I am still worried and hopefully will feel better when I have seen my wife and spoken to the doctors.

I get updates because a friend telephones the hospital everyday to see how she is. I have given her details and told the doctors they can give her the information regarding my wife. My friend speaks French quite well.

Thank you for the update JD. Yes, you will feel better once you have seen your wife. It’s good to hear that she is more awake now.

    All best wishes.

I have seen my wife today and spoken to a doctor. I am sorry to say the prognosis is not good. Although my wife can respond with nods when I speak she is not really completely awake and is obviously in distress. This doctor also said that with the damage to her spine she would probably not be able to walk again. Another problem is she has an infection near the operation site which they are treating with antibioctics. I asked about the breathing tube and it seems Janet cannot function without it. I did ask if my wife could be moved back to Morbihan he said that he would mention it but because my wife is weak it could be too dangerous. I am trying to be positive but it is difficult at the moment. Difficult writing this but I did say I would keep you posted.

It is difficult for you to write and it is difficult for us to know what to say. Just hang on in there JD. There are so many here who care and while that doesn’t help in a physical sense hopefully it is some comfort to you.

It is helpful to know that people you do not really know are so understanding and helpful. I have not given up and will speak to another doctor today if I can.
How do you deal with the fact that your wife knows you are there but can only nod and shake her head in response.

It must be so hard for you both but try to stay positive.  If you need to make adaptions to your house so if your wife recovers and can come home please know there are grants available.  It may be worthwhile getting to know your local social worker now as a Paris hospital may not know who to refer you to.  Sorry do not know the Morbihan but your local Maison de Department might be the place to start.  Thinking of you both

My main concern is it possible to move my wife nearer to a hospital near to us in Morbihan.

The doctor I spoke to yesterday thought it would be too risky to move her. I

I am going to ask again today if they get the infection under control would moving my wife be more feasible.

i have already converted a room downstairs into a bedroom for us.
