Earlier this week my wife was transferred to Rennes after being at the readaptation hospital in Pontivy for a couple of weeks.
I managed to visit yesterday (parking at the hospital is difficult) She was having more scans so only saw her for a while.
Today the doctor at Rennes telephoned to say that Janet was being transferred to Paris tomorrow for surgery. He said it was to repair two fractures in her vertebrae that were not healing in a good way. He said the operation was very complex and could have serious repercussions if it did not go well. The operation is scheduled for Monday. He asked if I would be going to Paris and I said yes. He advised me to go before the operation to see my wife, which is disconcerting.
My friends here have rallied round and I have a lift to Auray for train, another found a hotel near the hospital another booked our dog into kennels for tomorrow and my wife’s sons have been informed.
I am hoping for a good outcome but needless to say I am worried sick.
Thanks I will keep you informed, hopefully with good news.

20th September 2024 at 9:03 am #603561So sorry and will be thinking of you and hoping all goes well. The transfer to the hospital in Paris should give your wife the chance of the best outcome. Try not to worry too much about being told to see her before the operation the thing I have learned here is that doctors are always very cautious

21st September 2024 at 9:06 am #603577It is a shame that the problems were not picked up earlier.
We wish you and Mrs Jivedance the best of luck for Monday and beyond. It is important that you remain positive and strong. Hopefully the operation will put her firmly on the right road to recovery.
24th September 2024 at 9:29 pm #603702My wife had her operation on Monday. All day long we had no news. To say I was pretty stressed is an understatement. One of my wife’s sons stayed with me, neither of us got much sleep. Today I told the lady owner of the hotel we not heard. She got on the telephone and seemed to be sorting a few people out. We went back to hospital and someone did speak to us to say the operation went well. However they said she was in recovery and we could not see her. My helpful lady got on to the hospital and said to go back at 6.0 which I did. I was kept waiting for an hour and a half. I then told them this was not good enough. The surgeon then came and spoke to me. I told her I was not happy having to wait 30 hours for news. She apologised and said she did try to call me. During the operation my wife lost a lot of blood and needed a transfusion.
The hospital is the George’s Pompidou in Paris. Janet is going to be in it for at least a fortnight. I can stay until Friday. Surgeon told me to return tomorrow and she will take me to see Janet.
I cannot remember having so much stress and not sure how I got through yesterday and today. Writing it out helps.

25th September 2024 at 9:41 am #603715So sorry for your very stressful time, Try not to worry too much about the transfusion husband has had them often and when he haemorrhaged a litre and a half of blood in the house the doctor told me not to worry as it was only 5 bags of blood!! I found it helpful to find the nurse that was mainly responsible for husband’s care so when I phoned or visited I asked to speak to him or her and found them helpful and with the time to update me and answer my questions. The doctors were available but it was always a little more difficult as during visiting hours they were often on their breaks. Also a box of biscuits for the nursing staff goes down well. I supplied a box of biscuits each week husband was hospitalised
