I renewed mine just a couple of months ago. I had been dreading it but, in the event, it was actually quite painless and remarkably efficient with my new licence delivered by recorded delivery in just 15 days. The most difficult bit was creating an ANTS account …… they didn’t connect me to the bit to create a password and wouldn’t let me start again because they already had my email address. I just pressed password forgotten and they emailed me a temporary one which let me in so I could create a new one.
You need to be prepared in advance …….
Get your photos done at a photo booth that has the facility to do Permis de Conduire. Choose that option and it will do your pics as normal and then, before printing, will indicate how to do the signature (on the ridiculously small screen that is not only vertical but is also far too close to be able to write properly with a ‘stylus’ on a short string! fortunately you can have more than one attempt ). It will send a code to ANTS for them to retrieve your pic and it will also print out your pics. I believe it is best to wait a couple of days for ANTS to be able to retrieve them. You will also need to scan the front AND back of your current driving licence ready to upload. If you have heavy good categories you will need to have the appropriate medical/certificate. If you have heavy goods categories but only want a permis B you can tick ‘no medical’ and, at the end, upload a letter (which you have printed, signed in pen and scanned) to say that you no longer want the ‘groupes poids’.
If I remember correctly, when you sign into the site it does not say ‘renew’ a driving licence you use the ‘demande un Permis de Conduire. It takes you through step by step, you cannot progress to the next page if you have not completed the current one but it will save it and you can come back to it.
Hope this is helpful!
Many thanks Bandit’s Mum. I had hoped that I could use my own digital photos taken at home, as we have done in the past for the original licenses and even passport renewal. It sounds like the photo booth experience will not be a pleasant one, as well as being in a small confined space. Also have no idea where to find a photo booth that offers that service you describe. Will try the nearest Carrefour.
I think most of the supermarket photo booths now comply. I did my photos at a Leclerc …… it is quite clear on the outside of the booth if they do ‘official’ photos. It is definitely a bit of a farcical process when it comes to the signature part. Forgot to say that, on the print of your photos there is a code which you input at the relevant point on your application and this is how they identify your pic.
Don’t apologise ….. I was dreading it because I have a fear of all things official in case I do something wrong so put it off as long as I dared. You can set up your account as soon as you like. I did that first, then got my photos done and scans ready on my computer, then tackled the actual application.
