I was in the middle of browsing a website and Firefox crashed, I went through the procedure of re-start, by- passed the bit asking me to open an account and opted, rightly or wrongly, for refresh instead of the restart in safe mode option, now every time I want to open a 2nd tab, in addition to the one I’m using, the whole thing closes and I have to go through the whole restart, refresh thing again. As I am most definitely very computer un-savvy any help (in as simple language as possible please) would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Anonymous25th June 2017 at 9:04 pm #167280Apart from the ‘Well, this is embarrassing’ messages, I haven’t come across the restart or refresh choices with Firefox, which I am using as I type, but you could try downloading Opera, which I also use from time to time. It can import your favourites and things like passwords from Firefox, even if the latter isn’t working at the moment as it should.

Anonymous25th June 2017 at 10:25 pm #167324What do suggest we should be using instead, sure you know Far More than me personally, Barty
25th June 2017 at 10:47 pm #167347Sorry you have problems Fruitcake, I know how you feel, my laptop died. That’s how I’ve ended up with my iPad , which I love to bits! Bargain on Ebay.
Chrome works for me, followed by Explorer/Edge and unless I want to use an FF specific application I wouldn’t touch it.
What I know for certain from the numerous satellite broadband installations I’ve been involved with is that FF users get through far more data than users of other browsers which in user terms means that it’s likely to appear slower than other browsers especially on slower connections.
Anonymous25th June 2017 at 11:05 pm #167355Thanks A Lot for that Barty, food for thought, is there more advertising using ‘chrome’ etc?
Hope your prob is sorted soon F
“more advertising”???? don’t understand the question
you use a browser (chrome, firefox/explorer) to access a search engine (google/yahoo/bing) the search engines sell advertising, I don’t think it makes a much odds what browser you use what ads you get.
If you sign in and allow Chrome to track you then the ads that you get will be more targeted. Same number of ads but they’ll be more relevent to you, which surely is a good thing.
Anonymous25th June 2017 at 11:32 pm #167376We can use ad block on Ff, does the same apply on these browsers Barty, yes I am a computer Numpty!
Much appreciate the benefit of your knowledge
yes you can use ad blocker.
As a bit of an aside I have a crusade against ad-blockers as their use deprives many sites of essential income. There will come a time fairly soon when web sites will routinely check for ad blocking software and deny access if it’s detected or simply have to close and the internet will be a poorer place.
Anonymous26th June 2017 at 9:47 am #167428Thank you for the advice Barty, have now downloaded Chrome and am sorted.
Anonymous26th June 2017 at 6:01 pm #167775Hope it collected all your passwords and favourites from Firefox.
Anonymous26th June 2017 at 6:26 pm #167783Yes VK I imported everything from Firefox – I’m quite proud of myself as I’m very out of my depth with computers and their workings!
26th June 2017 at 7:06 pm #167836Well done Fruitcake! Bet the grandchildren know it backwards, they all do at that age!
Anonymous26th June 2017 at 7:13 pm #167840Yes they do Blue and from a very young age too! I love the tolerant “Poor old soul I’ll just humour her” look they fondly give when trying to explain something – very disconcerting when it’s a 6 year old doing so!
