Oops, as regards the oak tree picture, I included it because I thought you might like it.

    I like it.

Although the tree in the picture seems to be growing in a hedge, there are lots of instances in Southern England where there is a solitary established Oak growing in the middle of a farmers field.

Does anyone know why this is please?

These beautiful trees are left to provide shade and shelter for livestock. Cows also enjoy a good scratch on the rough bark.

Beautiful baby swallows Fruitcake. Can anyone guess what this baby is. Born in our wisteria a few years ago at our previous house.IMG_7770

Correct Bonjour. Easy ID for me as the parents were flying in and out.

Continuing on the cuteness theme, I took these pictures a couple of years ago in our garden. It was so wonderful seeing these beautiful red squirrels. Unfortunately, not seen them for some time now, hopefully they are still around and will return.DSC_0001 LargeDSC_00038

I was surprised by how tiny they are when I first saw one – very cute and great photos

Thank you Fruitcake, not sure, but they looked like young kits (kittens) to me.

Yes the bottom photo does especially. We saw quite a few in a little copse we had at one of our properties & when I saw the first one I was surprised that the adults are surprisingly small ( when compared to grey squirrels that is)

Thank you both, the beetle was sheltering from the rain in a sweet pea flower. Love the iridescent green sheen of the damselfly.

I am delighted to report that once again for the second year running, the swallowtail butterflies have decided lay eggs on our carrots. It must be coincidental, as I am reliably informed that butterflies do not return to their place of origin to lay eggs. DSC04724DSC04728
