England play this evening against Netherlands, normally there would be a great sense of anticipation for the semi final of a major competition, but no one I have spoken to feels it.
Last night saw the other underperforming team, France, go out of the competition.
10th July 2024 at 9:30 am #601422Just watching Sky news and their meercat predictor is saying an England win. Just sorry husband cannot watch it as still in hospital
really hope that your husband manages to see the match……reminds me of a stay in hospital …I was the second in the room…the first ,an elderly lady who kept the remote control for the tv tightly in her hand…
she was obviously deaf and kept it very loud…she watched programs I had never seen…game shows..lots of loud laughing…the final insult…she fell asleep…remote in hand…television blaring…
I pulled my drip over the room….pulled it gently from her claws….and shut it…retreating to my bed ..feeling as if I’d won a war!
I would ask the nurses if they can arrange something!
10th July 2024 at 12:46 pm #601435Will know more when I go up later today. He was admitted as an emergency Friday afternoon and had some surgery yesterday. Doctor was apparently very unhappy with the sonde so it looks as if he has had a sonde inserted surgically but will know more later. No chance of a tv because of where he is unless they move him.
Proper recovery is much more important than any football match and it is really inappropriate that there is a TV in any shared hospital ward / room unless all the inmates want to watch a particular programme. I think it especially true these days with all the digital solutions and headphone / ear plugs that are available.
Apart from Marmite’s experience it must be unsettling and no good to the medical staff. They are there to do a vital job, they surely do not need the distraction of a TV, especially a loud one? Maybe Cossie could add insight from that side?
Our overbed TVs are paid for and we try to dissuade people from using them. If the do use them they have to be used with earphones. A lot of people have tablets etc that they watch tv on or if it’s something special like the football we will set up the mobile computers. We also tend to have radios on in the bays as well but not too loud
10th July 2024 at 1:50 pm #601440I was in hospital with a virus.I was put in a room with an elderly lady who had the TV on very loud.As I had a severe reaction to light the nurse asked her to turn the TV off. she refused so I had to have a towel over my head to keep the light out..
11th July 2024 at 8:52 am #601449Wow what a match. Was it really a penalty opinion seems divided.
Just heard from hospital husband transferring to Plerin this morning. Sonde still not being used but chirugen is content so a slightly longer drive but the visiting hours are better and dog likes the car park better at Plerin as he usually makes new friends!
Last night I watched the 1966 World cup final repeat. It is the first time I have seen it.
It was noticeable that both teams tried to attack at every opportunity. No one fell acrobatically to the ground. No one except Styles abused the officials.
When England passed back to Banks unnecessarily they were booed.
I have no doubt’ that if England play like that today with the right players we will win.
England have shown they can score whenever they put their mind to it. Spain too have the same ability. Whilst the teams could cancel each other out it is possible that we will be in for a goal fest, especially if Spain go ahead early.
I hope Southgate plays the hungry youngsters and that he lets them off the leash.
