So true, it hasn’t gone away

    2nd October 2024 at 10:09 am #603846

As predicted it has evolved….it’s controlled with vaccine….you can still catch it…but it’s less agressive…

I finished my antivirals Monday…I’ve had a headache and awful fatigue ever since….but no other symptoms..not a sneeze in sight.

I know of two others …older than me …who are in hospital with pneumonia…that started with testing positive for covid.    It’s not to be ignored.

Mine has left me with a dry and noisy cough. My nephew is still feeling poorly after having his cancer treatment injection whilst still under the influence of COVID.

I had my immunotherapy yesterday…the hospital phoned three times in the last three days to see how I was feeling.

i saw the consultant before my treatment to make sure I was up to it.

He said the country is in the middle of a large wave of covid…the next big wave will be next spring…COVID is now part of our lives….

The elderly and those that  have  immunodeficiency are the worst affected…

being vaccinated…wearing masks in crowded places…protects you to a degree.

if you think you have covid …if you meet the criteria..there is treatment..but you need to get help within the first 48 hours of symptoms…the anti viral available (as with shingles)…is amazingly helpful…in stopping the advance of symptoms.

see your gp as soon as possible.

It can be just like a cold …or flu ..Just be aware that if it hits your chest…you can get pneumonia…being vaccinated does give you protection…maybe not completely…but it definitely helps…

Shopped in Lidl, Action and Leclerc yesterday. We were still the only people wearing masks and using the provided hand sanitizer.

Our GP stopped wearing a mask months ago, even though he covers the local hospice and tells me he is seeing Covid all the time.

Our Lidl in falaise no longer has hand disinfectant….and reality is often during covid the machine that was there was empty…take your own!

    wash your fruit and vegetables…

Friends of ours caught it and they think it was the latest strain.  He was very poorly with it and for some days his throat was so swollen that he could not eat solids.  She had been vaccinated but he had not and she was not as ill as him.  She regularly tested but was proving positive for fifteen days.

The vaccine protects you…from the worst of it…

After reading all the information about the Omicron variant (incubation period = 3-4 days, symptoms = sore throat, runny nose) and the rapidity with which my nephew and his wife tested positive after I did, I would say that is the variant I contracted. I left the UK on Friday and tested positive on Tuesday. I arrived in Australia on Sunday, and they tested positive on Wednesday.

She, like me, apart from the first day did not feel unwell, we merely had an annoying cough, gungy nose and dry mouth. He was the same until he had his cancer treatment, he then felt very poorly and continued to test positive two weeks later, He was told that cancer patients test positive for longer.

As I have said before, I wore a double mask (changing twice on each leg of the journey the under mask) for the whole of my journey from entering Heathrow airport, during my overnight stay in Singapore, and up to exiting Perth airport, with the exception of when I ate. So I am not sure what that says about mask-wearing and the protection it gives.

I did have my top up vaccination before I went.

Have booked our vaccinations for 25 October.  Husband is on very heavy duty antibiotics and cannot have any vaccinations until they are finished so hoping blood test will be ok otherwise will have to rearrange.  He can apparently have the anti grippe vax next week

I attended the GP yesterday, I wore a mask throughout, despite ther being lots of coughing and sneezing Only one other person wore one. The Doctors did not wear them.

I asked the Doctor she said masks were ineffective against Covid and that it is here to stay and must be accepted as part of normal life.

    She’s rather unique ,your doctor…

bearing in mind what she is saying…we’re doomed!

yes covid is here to stay…but they would not be running a vaccination program if there were no interest in protecting yourself.

I have not seen her before but she seemed professional. I think what she is saying is we must carry on as normal and that masks don’t work anyway. There were three other GP’s working, none of whom had masks and they are clearly exposed to all sorts of viruses and germs on a daily basis.

She did say I can have an injection after 15th though by going to the Pharmacy.

My gp was wearing a mask as was everyone else in the surgery…I was covid positive and instructed to wear a mask in the surgery…

    hospital…ok cancer department….everyone masked.

sorry bonjour ..we can only speak as we find…we flew to Italy …wearing masks…no covid…I caught it at home afterwards hugging a neighbour…neither of us masked.

She didn’t know she was infectious.

Indeed, anything that might help is worth a try.

    9th October 2024 at 1:00 pm #604052

I wore double masks all the way to Oz, caught COVID.

Didn’t bother on the flight back, seemed no point, no COVID

As you say Marmite, you can only speak as you find.

You cannot be sure you caught it on the aircraft, many more people pass through airports, you have to touch security trays that are in constant use by lots of people, same with baggage trolleys etc.

    9th October 2024 at 1:35 pm #604054

Absolutely Bonjour which is why my hands were dry and sore from all the hand gel I used each time I touched anything.

I cannot be sure at all of where I caught it of course, only that I wore the masks from before entering Heathrow used the hand gel and tested positive 4 days after I started my journey. Who knows?

You took it off to eat!…as did we…it’s just down to luck…but you’re ok for a while fruitcake as I am…apparently next big wave will be in the spring.

Exactly Marmite! It could have just stealthily slid in with my chicken breast and mushroom sauce, we will never know.
