I want to copy some of my CDs onto my Samsung mobile phone but my laptop does not have a CD drive. I have done a little research and, as far as I can work out, I can buy an external CD drive to copy the CDs to my laptop and then transfer onto my phone .Is this the only/best method? I will need to put a micro SD card into my phone to increase the data storage ….. is there a maximum (data) size SD card you can put into a phone and what size will I need to store about a dozen or so CDs?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Bandit’s Mum take a look at Spotify. It’s free, if you don’t mind the occasional advertisement. You can build you own playlists, song and album library totally for free and play whatever music you like whenever you like. I haven’t looked at my CD collection or my computer digital music library for ages. Spotify and Alexa are a wonderful combination. Good luck.

Thanks Twinkle, I do have Amazon Music on my phone but it uses up data when you are not within reach of wifi and I want it mainly for when I’m out in the car. I don’t pay for a lot of data and don’t really want to pay for any more, hence the thought that I could put my favourite CDs onto my phone.

Yes, that can be expensive. I have a USB input port in my car. I simply downloaded most of my music library to a memory stick, which I plug into the car USB port and play music through the car radio. Just another option. Back to your original question a dozen cd’s would require a maximum of eight gigabytes of memory.

Around six years ago we took delivery of our camping car, it wasn’t until we were on a long journey Calais to Dordogne that we discovered there wasn’t anywhere to put a CD. Even as a last result, consultation of the destructions did not help.

I do remember  spending hours but eventually I did manage to get Dolly Parton, Ed Sheeran and a Classical CD onto the computer.

After another few days and I can’t recall how I got them onto an i phone.

Around six months later we managed to find out how to play them in the van.

    Then the phone died.

Now we don’t listen to music in the van at all.

It’s not worth the hassle, another case of progress going backwards in my view.

What I do sometimes is the following. I download a free youtube video (often live concerts), change the file format to mp3 using public domain software and then I can easily transfer the file to my mobile phone. Sounds complicated, takes some time, but maybe it helps.
