    Does anyone know why the climate conference is being held in Scotland ? Making it very difficult for those from the Southern hemisphere to travel and join in the discussions .

    Why wasn’t it planned so that all countries would have easy access ? :unsure:

    Planes can fly anywhere Deboer and it gives Scotland the chance to have the discussions in their country, rather than in any other country. Can’t see a problem with that to be honest.

    It was originally planned for Italy, in 2020, but Covid put paid to that.

    Boris (as Foreign Sec) saw an opportunity to include Scotland in UK and offered Scotland as the venue.

    Why wasn’t it held in China or India the biggest and worst polluters in the world? probably too much pollution for the politicians

    Italy and UK shared the presidency for this period.

    John Kerry has suggested Egypt for the next one in 2027, but that has not been confirmed by the COP bureau.

    USA produces more pollution than India. More than twice as much.

    Per capita, Qatar is the worst polluting country. Out of the G7 countries, who agreed to tackle the problem, Canada is the worst.

    The top 10 most polluting countries according to the IPCC:

    Qatar — 37.05 per capita
    Kuwait — 23.49 per capita
    Saudi Arabia — 19.39 per capita
    Canada — 16.85 per capita
    United States — 15.74 per capita
    Germany — 9.7 per capita
    China — 7.72 per capita
    Spain — 6.09 per capita
    France — 5.02 per capita
    Thailand — 4.05 per capita

    China and India’s argument is that they are still developing nations, whereas the western nations are fully developed.

    They, China and India, and other developing nations argue that the developed nations are in a better position to help out the poorer and developing nations to achieve green credentials.

    I stand corrected

    Well they would argue that,  however being able to throw tons of crap into the atmosphere allows cheaper prices so they sell more and it gets worse, fully developed or not doesnt make it right they should be given a free hand, funny how those 2 countries can be classed as the porrer nations when they own lots of European industry, buy out steel companies car companies, China lends Billions at good interest to the west and yet they are still developing, something wrong somewhere if you ask me, and thanks to China for Covid

    Perhaps Allwaysinit ought to apologise for their bigotry.

    Covid-19 origins may never be known, US intelligence agencies say

    BBC.

    Glasgow has an international airport,capable of catering for all the polluting planes that they will all be arriving on(for the climate conference),so i don,t see how it is a difficult for anyone to get to. :unsure:

    30th October 2021 at 5:57 pm #562363

    Quite right Topcat.  I don’t think Glasgow is a city that doesn’t have an international airport, at least it wasn’t when I last used it!  England and its airports is not the be-all and end-all to British travel destinations!!!

    This is what I meant :

    Campaigners say activists and observers have been prevented from coming by:

    an underlying “hostile attitude” from the UK Home Office towards those travelling from countries in the global south, particularly Africa, which has led to many visas being refused;
    a failure to honour a pledge to offer Covid vaccines to all delegates, leaving many to search for vaccines in countries with little or no access;
    constantly changing Covid restrictions for those entering the UK, with travel banned from countries on the UK’s red list, which, until this month, included many of the countries worst hit by the climate crisis. This has left many to seek costly and complicated routes to Glasgow via third countries;
    an accommodation crisis in the city that has made finding a safe place to stay difficult and expensive. Campaigners have set up a “homestay network” to try to link people up with spare rooms, but say they have thousands on their waiting list.

    Nothing to do with Glasgow airport .

    I think all those on this site that have travelled to the UK lately have experienced problems ?

    The biggest polluters are not even attending. The rest of the hypocrites are flying in on private jets with a massive enterrage of cars and helicopters. You couldn’t make this up. Bloody politicians, when are we going to be represented by people who actually live on the same planet as the rest of us?

    31st October 2021 at 1:18 am #562380

    It’s not about what they say it’s about.

    “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”

    I like Neil Oliver, he does talk a good game but is maybe a bit short on global solutions ?

    31st October 2021 at 8:08 am #562383

    Maybe Harry and Meghan should be enlisted to help with global warming.

    A conference held without the largest polluters?say what you like…decide what you like …they will do as they want.

    Harry and Meghan should be totally ignored. Little whiners……no class.

    31st October 2021 at 8:35 am #562387

    At the risk of appearing to display bigotry…China are not attending.

    Yes John…agree …I was being sarcastic .

    31st October 2021 at 8:57 am #562388

    The leaders of both China and Russia have declined to attend, I suspect politics  (as ever) has taken over the issues that need to be addressed.
