Then they must have changed the law , my old licence has three stickers in it , one for each year . It wasn’t legal after I moved away from Jersey because it is registered at the address I was living at in Trinity , but I do have an old French one too !
Anonymous9th March 2021 at 8:53 pm #546247Just imagine having to renew your licence every year now on Jersey, it would be a nightmare surely? My French licence is holding on by a thread, 1988 but doesnt run out until 2033, so no chance of me applying for the credit card size French licence with a much shorter end date to it.
Anonymous9th March 2021 at 9:04 pm #546248My licence has 1700 as it’s number , so I assume that there were at least 1700 people living in the Parish of Trinity at the time , all had to be renewed before 31st January every year .
There were 69,000 people living on Jersey in 1970 ( all had to renew their licences every year) , now 107,000, so a few more that 50 years ago .
Hello Jim, re your input to this thread, I can affirm Marie-Josee Conans’ services are excellent and effective, having used her to re immatriculate my Smart car in 2015 and my Suzuki in 2019.
She is very effective because she previously worked for the department that administer such applications.
Regards, Will
The sainted Kim Cranstoun, who more or less full time helps brits with driving license exchanges and has a line to MOI in France and the British Embassy for all things related posted this on FaceBook (there are very few people I would rust on FB, Kim I’d trust implicitly):
The Reciprocal Agreement has been done, it is with the powers that be for checking and signing, how long this will take I cannot say but no one is specifically holding it up, it’s just the administration, hopefully something more concrete in the next 2-3 weeks.
We understand that:
No driving test will be required unless you specifically wish to take the 2 part test.
Expired licences will be exchanged, both cards and licences. There will be a specific criteria for exchanging but I really can’t say what this is until it’s officially released, ie, translations etc, I have asked for clarification on this.
Dear Barth B
thankyou for posting something positive…I,ve tried for 3 years to change my licence…first time I did everything asked for…and was told to wait…I waited…and waited…then realised I wasn’t getting a reply…so I went to the prefecture 18 months ago and was told…no licence exchange without a carte de séjour….so I waited …when it came …site closed.
Theres only one thing that would « drive » me back to the UK…no driving licence.
really hoping…..
do you think that the lady mentioned will be able to apply for us ?
if so how do we find her?please
Hello all, re this situation I have a question to ask, maybe the wisest in the land can answer…
I hold a UK driving licence with category D entitlement (PCV vehicle: coaches / buses) plus the accompanying digital tacho card and CPC card – plus courtesy of ‘grandfathers rights’ (having passed in 1986) I have the right to drive a 7.5 tonnes van/lorry also…however it seems I have to now exchange these for the French equivalents, a permis de conduire etc.
Upon completion of the necessary pleading with the almighty staff at ANTS and selling my soul to Beelzebub, will I be granted the categories I currently hold automatically or do I go to the bottom of the ladder and have to start everything again – in a foreign tongue, at great expense and forfeiting certain existing entitlements?
If anyone likes an almighty challenge then kindly answer the above correctly and I shall reward thee with blessings (a cheque) and much trumpeting of thy name.
Will, this won,t help the current situation, but a friend of mine in exactly the same position as you tried to do the right thing by changing his licence over to a French one. When he got it back there was a 30km restriction on his Cat D and they wouldn.t give him a Digi card because he didn,t have a FIMO.He had no choice but to quickly change it back to a UK licence.I also have a couple of friends who are driving French school buses with their UK licences. All was fine until 31/12/20,they have since been told to take the FCO in order to carry on working for the time being. They have applied to change their licences over but as far as i know haven,t got further than the first stage of application, they have had to go for a medical, that,s all i know at the moment,TC.
Anonymous13th April 2021 at 10:38 am #548894Latest news from the UK government (read yesterday on Facebook direct from a UK MP) is that UK Licences are fine until the end of the year and that both the French and the UK are working on a solution to solve the reciprocal treatment of both countries and for the UK, without the need for an Internationa driving licence being required. As for those whose UK licence has run out, all they could offer was an apology and until this is all sorted out there was nothing there could do about it.
Hurrah for common sense
And a little more detail from the soon to be canonised Kim Cranstoun:
24/06/2021 – UK LICENCES UPDATE RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT
Further to the update by the British Embassy tonight (24.06.21), I can finally confirm the terms of the agreement.
This is to be released officially by the Ministère de l’Intérieur soon, likely to be next week sometime, and have advised they want to ensure that CERT, CREPIC, ANTS and the Gendarmes/Police are fully mandated before the ANTS system goes live.
There will be a unified media release by the Ministère de l’Intérieur and the British Embassy Paris to publicise the new criteria and the opening of the ANTS system for UK licence exchanges. The terms of the agreement are as follows:
_____________________________________________________________________Licences & Photocards (4a date) issued BEFORE 31.12.2020
(Licences issued whilst the UK was in the EU)Licences and Photocards (4a) issued before 31.12.20 will continue to be recognised as legal and will be eligible for exchange 6 months before the expiry date of :
Photocard 4b
Photocard column 11
Original paper UK licence at 70A WARP (Withdrawal Agreement Residence Permit Article 50 Tue) will be required for UK citizens, or a CdS if you are required to hold one for application. If you hold EU citizenship, no changes to existing exchange procedure.
_____________________________________________________________________Expired – Licences and Photocards (4a date) issued BEFORE 31.12.20
(Licences issued whilst the UK was in the EU)All Licences and Photocards (4a) issued before 31.12.20 but have now expired, whether before 31.12.20 or since whilst waiting for the new system to go live, will be eligible for exchange.
This won’t be a quick process but once your application moves to the request to submit your licence you will receive an Attestation de Depot de Permis de Conduire (temporary licence) whist your French licence is being finalised.
_____________________________________________________________________Licences and Photocards (4a date) issued from 01.01.2021
Licences and Photocards (4a) issued from 01.01.2021 will have 12 months from the date of issue of your Residence Permit to start the exchange.
_____________________________________________________________________I am yet to be briefed on whether translations will be required for UK licence exchanges, but a Certificate of Entitlement will (I can almost guarantee) be asked for, document E4 in Files will explain how to apply for one.
_____________________________________________________________________I must reiterate that when the system goes live no licence exchange application (licences or photocards issued before 31/12/20) will be processed if the licence or photocard has more than 6 months validity remaining on the licence, this has been made clear to us by the Ministère de l’Intérieur.
Thankyou so much for posting so clearly…you’re quite right Kim has been amazing…reassuring and generally a great support and help.
my licence is ok until august next year …so if I understand correctly I can wait for after Christmas to change it.?
Thankyou France….
All scanned documents accepted and approved last July for my wife,s licence exchange.Been waiting since then, just had an email to say that to complete the process they need a form from DVLA to prove your entitlement to drive, think it is to check that you are not banned from driving.
