Apparently Adobe Flash player is to cease after 12 January 2021. I am not very computer savvy but I know I have this on my PC and it has to do with video such as Youtube. Will this affect my smart TV as well?
I thought at first this was a hoax but it is also notified on Mozzila firefox which is the browser I use. Can anybody entighten me further and what is the alternative? is there another programme that does the same thing (whatever that might be) Any info would be welcome.
Thank you
27th December 2020 at 9:18 am #540657Me too JP, I’ve had these pop-up warnings for ages, but have been in denial, let’s hope we can get advice from some computer savvy people.
DON’T PANIC!!!….., all your video s will play just fine.
The demise of Flash SHOULDN’T make any difference to you it’s been largely superseded over the past 5 years or so. The main use was interactive things like games and the like tho’ once upon a time whole websites were written in Flash.
I don’t have Flash allowable by default so I have to permit sites to use it, las nt time I had to allow Flash I had to Google how to because I couldn’t remember…….. No point in worrying about it because (for practical purposes) there’s nowt you can do and I doubt you’ve used it in 3 or 4 years.
28th December 2020 at 9:34 am #540719Thanks Barty for the advice, I’ll carry on ignoring the pop ups!
Personally I would get rid of it as it is extra clutter and not only does it take up a bit of extra space, it is a program that has been jumped upon many times in the past with spy and malware.
The de-installer built into your system settings should be able to get rid of it and if not I find that IOBIT deinstaller is a great tool for all your needs as long as you use it just for that purpose and do not click on any of the links that it uses as its partners. If you happen to do so then you can always deinstall them easy enough with the original download.
I did take on their recommendation and use their defrag program and it did a great job in cleaning up the computer and cleared and resized about 100gb of files but the closing down of the computer started taking ages so I got rid of that easy enough. I can always redownload it to use again then deinstall it again if needed.
However, I am not going to argue with BartyB as he has been known to talk sense a few times in the past
