I think that there is sometimes a problem with writing things in a forum as though they are speech coming directly from our mouths. When we speak out loud we can say things with an ironic tone or we use facial expressions to indicate that we are joking or just laughing at ourselves. Unfortunately that doesn’t come over in e-mails and on forums, and can therefore lead to misinterpretation. There are certain individuals here who might do well to really read what they have written before they click the “submit” button, because they often seem to claim that they were “only joking” when they make rude and inflammatory remarks .
I think we should also remember that we nearly lost this forum because of the negative impact of all the bickering and back biting. We seem to be sliding back to the same situation again at the moment. So I would ask everyone to please think twice about what and how you post, and if someone angers you just go and make a cup of tea and calm down before you continue the discussion.Anonymous23rd November 2021 at 10:44 am #563611
Admin Paul, says I am a keyboard warrior but I have no idea what it means, all I do know is that whatever I write on here I would say it all vis a vis without a doubt. So off of here I would just be a warrior then?
Positive Thinking, initially your post was pretty much correct. I find some on here want to post on anything and everything, regardless, a few do not even stop to read posts as they are set out. Maybe it is because I have spent over the years a long time in the company of a huge variation of people, all with their own form of speaking. You take the time to get to know them, you know their ways and their foibles as well as realising they can be outspoken but in a way that is fair enough.
There are others whose humour is deadpan and every station in between and I understood their thought pattern. I speak as I do away from this forum. I spent a lot of time before hanging up my working boots as a consultant, saving newcomers to France a fortune when they had been plundered by knowalls who sat in the corner of the local bar. I came across many who wanted to know the why’s and wherefore’s and to hear my answers. The large majority were happy with the replies but every now and again I would get the one person who wanted to tell me the answers to their own questions. Like now for example, memories of previous “debates”are held in abeyance, whereas I personally forget most of the previous contretemps and right now I can tell the forum the people who hold grudges forever on here and every chance they pile in with either a like or a mention if it means it’s against me. So with that in mind, ban me as to be honest whatever I say or do will get taken in the way the reader wants it to be. Finally I do hope the finger was not pointing at me PV about “often” saying something was a joke because if people do not recognise something as merely a fun reply, as in my last scenario of stating “so last year” which is so well known as a phrase of kind mockery as in my Daughter often ribbing me about my old laptop or phone and telling me they are so “last year” and if people don’t know that, then for sure there is no place for a poor old Lundern boy on this forum.
P.S Sorry for the length of reply Seagoon, I tried to post in just three words but it looked rude.
I’m not entering a debate about who has helped who in France…just trust me when I say you are not alone in helping ..often physically.
The only advert some are talking about…is themselves.
maybe something would be judged as a joke…if said face to face…writing is very different.
